We are fatalities in a bizarre world. Think about it. We chase around hour after hour every day and we end up without any time. Our quest for more stuff; money, success and material things is what has caused our stressful lives and why we are these ticking time bombs.
The symptoms of stress can be fatal leading to disease, chronic illness, hypertension and even heart attack. Many people don't realize the stress they put themselves under on a daily basis. Our bodies were made to help us in stressful, fight or flight, situations when we need adrenaline quickly to protect ourselves. We were not however supposed deal with stress all the time.
So, what do you do to relieve stress and the effect it can have on your body? Before we get to the 5 points on effective stress relief there are two things you should think about doing for yourself on a daily basis to avoid stress.
The first thing is to get off adrenaline. One of the best tips on how to relieve stress is to plan better. Life happens and there are always going to be surprises you can't avoid but it doesn't have to be like this all of the time. A little planning can be the best thing you can do to keep your stress levels down. Your health and well-being could be at stake.
The second thing is to drink less caffeine and if you are a smoker to cut back, or better yet, quit smoking. Nicotine and caffeine can cause harmful stress to the body. Cut them out as much as possible.
So let's now work through the 5 steps to a stree free mind and body.
1. Regular exercise
It’s not really important what exercise means to you. You could go out for a jog or a brisk walk in the park or go to the gym and exercise there. What is critical is that you exercise on a regular basis and that you are relaxing when doing so. If you are not enjoying the exercise you are doing then there is really no point.
2. Relaxation and meditation
I know it sounds easy to say just relax or chill out but most people don't know how to. It is not necessary to meditate like a Zen master, although this can be very relaxing, but you should take a time out where you are free from disruptions and noise and you can have a little alone time.
3. Spoil yourself
This isn't an invitation to go out and shop. It does mean doing something for yourself. What you could do is go to a spa and enjoy a relaxing massage or you could sit down to a good book and a little alone time.
4. Video and board games
Board games can be a perfect stress reliever. Put some thought into who you invite to play with to make sure you avoid the game becoming to intense and stressful. There are some great free software games you can download off the internet that are great to help relieve stress
5. Make sure you sleep well
Make sure you get enough rest. Interrupting your sleeping habits can cause serious stress on your mind and body. If you are constantly thinking you are not resting. It may not sound possible but you can turn off thoughts about worry simply by not reacting to them.
It is not necessary to do all of these from the word go but you should start with one and do it regularly until it becomes effective. It is important to relax no matter what you do. Start today.
